Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa is not paying any attention to the recent comments from Manny Pacquiao's advisor, Michael Koncz. In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com's Ronnie Nathanielsz, Koncz named Gamboa as a possible option for Pacquiao's return on April 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Gamboa's representative, Willie Suarez, claims the mention of Pacquiao was a diversion to take away the attention of Gamboa calling out WBO super featherweight champion Mikey Garcia. Suarez feels promotional firm Top Rank is protecting Garcia from Gamboa, despite the heavy interest from HBO to stage that fight.
"It was a smokescreen to divert the attention of the public from the fight that Yuriorkis wants, which is Mikey Garcia,'' said Suarez to George Ebro. "They're talking about Yuriorkis against Pacquiao, because they have seen that our boxer is focused on Garcia, that he challenged him on the social networks, and they want to divert the attention [away from that fight].''
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Garcia, denied the possibility of a Pacquiao-Gamboa fight.
Garcia will fight on January 25 at Madison Square Garden in New York, against Juan Carlos Burgos.
