WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) has yet to begin any discussions regarding his next opponent, according to the boxer's legal adviser Gabriel Peñagarícano.

Cotto captured the WBC title in June with a ten round TKO of division ruler Sergio Martinez. Several names have been mentioned in the press for Cotto's next fight. Cotto's first defense of the middleweight title is tentative for the first or second week of December.

The biggest possible option for Cotto is Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 32KOs). Canelo is targeting a return in November. Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who works with Cotto, says a fight with Canelo is better suited for Cinco De Mayo weekend in May.

"We have not yet begun to even discuss options for next fight," said Peñagarícano to Carlos Narvaez. "Canelo could be in the equation, but as we have said, we have not discussed anything yet."
