Although there is still nothing official on the horizon, four division former world champion Miguel Angel Cotto has already begin his physical preparations for a potential return on a date in December.

Cotto opened up his training work last week with Filipino coach Marvin Somodio, who is the right hand man of head trainer Freddie Roach. Somodio traveled for a few days to Puerto Rico to implement the fitness agenda fitness for Cotto.

The Vice President of Miguel Cotto Promotions, Hector Soto, confirmed that Cotto's training process has begun.

"Miguel himself has begun working to get ready again. Marvin Somodio was in Puerto Rico helping Miguel in the first stage," said Soto to El Vocero. "There is still nothing concrete, but we'll have an idea of his future in the coming weeks."

Cotto is coming off a unanimous decision loss last November in Las Vegas against Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Cotto, with a record of 40-5 and 33 knockouts, was in talks to face Mexican veteran Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez, but they were unable to overcome the differences in weight and their negotiations were terminated.

Meanwhile, Soto firmly denied some erroneous reports which suggested Cotto was trying to secure a fight with Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa - who fights at 130-pounds. Gamboa (25-1 and 17 KO's) has been inactive since his unanimous decision victory against Hylon Williams Jr. last December in Verona, New York. The reports were strange, since Gamboa did several interviews clearly starting that he lost to Terence Crawford at 135, because Crawford was too big for him. Cotto last fought at 155-pounds.

"That is 100 percent false. They never discussed Gamboa. That's not even in the picture," Soto said.
