Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada - Earlier today Sebastian and Natalie Ribero, co-manager's of Diego Chaves, spoke exclusively to BoxingScene.com about Chaves journey to receive his visa at the 11th hour which enabled him to salvage his fight Saturday evening against Brandon Rios that will headline a HBO tripleheader.
"It is difficult to describe. I have been in this business for 20 years. Since I was very young and this is the first time I have seen something like this. It was a very stressful week, without knowing what to do or what to expect," stated Sebastian.
"Suddenly yesterday at 2 o'clock I received a call from Top Rank to go to the Consulate in Buenos Aires to pick up the passport and it was very joyous. I can't really describe it."
Sebastian's sister Natalie took Chaves to the Consulate and said that they had another stroke of luck with the timing of their arrival. If they had arrived a few minutes later, Chaves passport would have been mailed to him, making it impossible for him to receive it in time to get to Las Vegas in time for the fight.
"I went there with Diego to get the passport and if we had arrived there
5 minutes later the DHL package was going to the main office there and we almost lost the chance to come here," Natalie told BoxingScene.com.
Sebastian said that Chaves had a full training camp and said that his fighter is in great shape. He doesn't think the drama surrounding the visa was too much of a distraction.
"He trained for two months. His training camp was great. For the 15 days we had this problem we tried to comfort him and we said that if this fight doesn't happen we will get him a different one in a week or two weeks. He would still have opportunities," said Sebastian.
