IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13KOs) is currently in his training camp for his February 23rd showdown against his mandatory challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19KOs). The fight takes place in Detroit, MI and will be broadcast by Showtime. Alexander's manager and trainer Kevin Cunningham has advised BoxingScene that his pupil is looking to make a statement in his first fight of the New Year.
"Devon's preparing to school Kell Brook on the technique of smart aggression. Devon is really focused on making a statement in this fight," Cunningham said.
Cunningham said that Brook is a good fighter and that they are 100% focused on the Brit. At the same time, the St. Louis based trainer knows that if Alexander is successful against Brook that there is no shortage of future opponents in the loaded welterweight division.
"Brooks' the mandatory and a good strong fighter so we are focused on taking care of him first but there are some good welterweight matchups. We would be interested in the Malignaggi-Mosley winner or a fight against Berto would also be good," Cunningham told BoxingScene.
