The war of words between Devon Alexander's team and Paulie Malignaggi has erupted again. Alexander's manager has heard the rumors that a clash between the two fighters may happen in January. The potential fight would be part of an HBO doubleheader that will also feature the rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto.
"There is a rumor that a Devon versus Paulie Malignaggi fight can happen in January. I have yet to talk to Golden Boy about this but I have heard the rumors," said Cunningham.
Malignaggi's last fight took place on October 15th when he defeated Orlando Lora via unanimous decision. After getting wobbled in the first round, the talkative Brooklynite dominated Lora throughout the rest of the fight. Shortly after the fight Malignaggi put on a t-shirt that read, "Devon is my b*tch", obviously referring to Devon Alexander. Malignaggi and Alexander have had an ongoing feud for the past several months.
Alexander and his manager haven't forgotten the disrespect that Malignaggi displayed to them with that custom t-shirt.
"As you know in Malignaggi's last fight, after the fight was over, he put on a t-shirt that had the words saying 'Devon is my b*tch'. If this fight is made and it happens in January then Paulie has to answer for being so disrespectful and Devon is going to make him pay for the t-shirt," Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
Payback for Malignaggi's disrespect is only part of what Cunningham wants if the potential fight gets made. The former St. Louis policeman took it a step further by saying that Alexander is will to put his purse up and make the fight a winner take all situation.
"If Paulie really means what the t-shirt says and he is really confident that he can beat Devon, then we can make it a winner take all situation. Let's see how he responds to that deal," said Cunningham.
