The unification bout between WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander "The Great" and IBF champion Juan Urango has been moved from Las Vegas to The Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. The bout is still set for the HBO date of March 6th. With only 6 weeks till the day of the fight the undercard still needs to be completed. The card will receive an extra boost with Jay-Z performing the night before in the same venue.
When asked about the venue change Alexander trainer Kevin Cunningham had this to say, "the Mohegan Sun has a history of putting on great fights and March 6th is going to be another one. The Mohegan Sun is probably a better venue than the one in Vegas. Fans can look forward to a great fight."
Alexander added, "as a fighter I just worry about doing what I need to do when I step inside the ring. The venue doesn't matter. When the bell rings I just need to handle my business which is what I am going to do. At the same time I hear The Mohegan Sun is a great venue. I look forward to fighting there and putting on a great show for the fans and adding another belt to my collection."
No reason was given for the venue change but there have been rumors DKP wasn't happy with the site fee being offered by Treasure Island Hotel and Casino.
