Kevin Cunningham, the manager/trainer for WBC/IBF junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander, said it's a disgrace to mention the name of WBO champion Timothy Bradley in the same sentence as Manny Pacquiao. Following last Saturday's dominating win over Carlos Abregu, Bradley challenged Pacquiao to a fight. Cunningham sees nothing from Bradley to have earned him a mega-bout with Pacquiao.
“He's done nothing to put himself in position to earn the right to fight a great fighter like Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather,” Cunningham said to The Desert Sun. “I think it's a disgrace to continue mentioning Tim Bradley with the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather.”
“You've never heard Devon mention Pacquiao or Mayweather. He wants to go out to prove he deserves to be in the conversation with the greats, but he wants to prove himself by being the best in the division and fighting the best in the division.”
Alexander watched Bradley's win over Abregu. He told the paper that he wasn't impressed with Bradley's performance.
“It was real sub-par. I didn't see nothing special,” Alexander said. “I don't see the hype of Timothy Bradley skillwise. He has heart, but he has nothing special. It was a lame performance. He knows I got skill and he doesn't want to fight anyone with skills.”
Bradley disagrees with their views. He believes that he does have the skill to fight the best, like Mayweather and Pacquiao.
“It sounds like he doesn't have confidence in his fighter. I know I can be at that level [with Mayweather and Pacquiao]. That's the difference between me and Devon,” Bradley said.
