Matchroom BoxingDUBLIN, Ireland – Taylor Bevan picked up a dominant win over Emmet Brennan on the undercard of Katie Taylor-Flora Pili at Croke Park, Dublin.
The 25-year-old super-middleweight from Southampton set a frantic pace, standing toe-to-toe with Ireland’s Brennan from the off. Brennan, 35, fought bravely, but couldn’t stand up to the relentless Bevan’s power and was dropped for the first time in round two by a short left hook. Brennan climbed back to his feet but was put down shortly after by a right hand. Brenna again rose up, and it could have been waved off there.
Brennan would go on to hit the canvas a further three times, the final knockdown was brutal. A right hand from Bevan sent Brennan tumbling face first but before he could hit the ground he was hit with a left uppercut that put Brennan out cold on his back.
The stoppage came 36 seconds into round five. However, Brennan’s corner should have saved him from harm much earlier, to say the least.
Bevan rises to 11-0 (9 KOs) with the best win and performance of his career.
Earlier, former UFC fighter Molly McCann put in the best performance since making the switch to professional boxing to move to 5-0 (1 KO). The 36-year-old was in with her toughest test in Sylwia Doligala, 8-3-2, but showed classy skills, even switching to southpaw to outpoint Doligala. The scorecard read 79-73 and 80-72 (twice) to McCann.
Adam Olaniyan became the first heavyweight to fight at Croke Park since Muhammad Ali in 1972 when stepped through the ropes to face Matej Hudak, 6-3 (6 KOs). The now 4-0 (4 KOs) prospect from Tallaght, Ireland, made light work of his over-matched foe, delivering a right hand, followed by a left, followed by another right to put an end to proceedings at 3:00 of the second session.
