FILIPINO challenger Marvin Tampus failed in his attempt to win another title when he vowed to a highly world rated champion on Friday at the Mall Shopping Center in Bangkae District in Bangkok, Thailand.
Tampus lost by four rounds on two scorecards and six on the third official card, with scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 117-111 - to Nakornluang, who defended his Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) super flyweight title.
Nakornluang, ranked top three in the world by WBC, improved his unblemished stock to 14-0 with eight coming by knockouts.
Tampus fought for only third time in as many fights this year after coming from 18-month layoff when he beat veteran Noel Sungahid in his comeback fight in Kawayan, Masbate last March. Tampus came from five-fight no-victory, including when he lost the Pan Asian Boxing Association light flyweight title to unbeaten Vicky Tahumil in April 2004 before a hostile crowd in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Leyte-native, Cebu-based fighter dropped his record to 13-5-2 win-loss-draw with 10 knockouts.
On the undercard, former Philippine Boxing Federation lightweight champ Dondon Lapuz was no match against the punching power of another world rated Thai.
Reigning WBC international super bantamweight champion and WBC No. 1 contender Napapol Kiatisakchokchai stopped Lapuz at 1:12 of round 5 of their scheduled six-round fight.
