Games and Amusements Board boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz says the GAB will review the fight tape of the super bantamweight title fight between champion Jun Talape (17-6-1, 7 KO’s) and challenger Roel Laguna (9-2-2, 6 KO’s) following a strong protest from boxing promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud over the split decision in favor of the champion.

The fight was held at the Mandaluyong Gym and ended in controversy with some fight fans booing the decision and others claiming that Laguna should have won. It was the second time the two fighters clashed and on both occasions it was a close fight.

Promoter Jay San Pedro of the Tiger City Gym who handles the 23 year old southpaw Talape told us “it was a close fight just like the first time” and said it was “not a one-sided fight” as claimed by the handlers of Laguna led by trainer Juanito Ablaca who branded the decision “a big injustice.”

Cruz said that he would “review it in a way that would be impartial by getting some neutral people to watch the fight tape.” Dr. Cruz said they would come out with a decision following the results of the review.
