The World Association super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama is suffering from an elbow injury and it now forces him to undergo surgery at the end of May. Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19 KO) recently defended his title against Thai challenger Jomthong Chuwatana, whom the champion defeated with an impressive early knockout.
Initially, the champion and his team were mentioning a hand injury, but it seems the problem was originally caused by the wear and tear of an elbow cartilage.
This will cause that Uchiyama to take a break from any boxing activity for a few months, and he is expected to return to the ring by year's end. The injury will prevent the Japanese star to follow through with his plan for three defenses in the 2015.
