North Bergen, NJ - Artur Szpilka (19-1, 14 KO’s) makes his return on the televised Premier Boxing Champions undercard of the Steve Cunningham-Antonio Tarver card at the Prudential Center in Newark. Szpilka will likely be a fan favorite because of the Polish contingent in North Jersey and it’s something that makes him feel comfortable.
“I’m back where I started on the East Coast fighting in Connecticut and Atlantic City,” Szpilka told BoxingScene.com through an interpreter. “So being back in Jersey is good and I’m very happy.”
The last time he was in the metropolitan area, he suffered his first defeat to Bryant Jennings and said it was the best thing that happened for his career.
“It was the best present I ever got,” Szpilka said. “Because of the loss, it woke me up and got me to move to American and get the best training. Now I’m ready to make a run on PBC. I’m very happy for signing with Al Haymon. I’m on PBC cards and very happy.”
Szpilka says he wants the winner of the main event because maybe it will eventually lead him to WBC world heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder.
“Its hard work, if I win that fight I’m ready for the winner of Tarver-Cunningham, I’d fight them right now. With Wilder, he’s a champion but he has a lot of weaknesses. He’s got a big punch and I’d love to fight him and exploit them.”
