True Brit Suszannah Warner is in Mexico City ready to try and wrest the Womens’ WBC International Flyweight belt from Champion Mariana Juarez.

Their ten round bout which is part of Battle in the Capitol two presented by Boxeo De Gala (Prestige Boxing Promotions), is one the appetizers for the WBC Light Flyweight championship clash between “Busy” Edgar Sosa and Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro.

Suszannah who’s originally from Leeds, but is now based in New York, is up against it. At thirty eight, she’s ten years older than Mariana. Her record is 8-6-0 with 2KOs. While Mariana’s is 16-5-3 with 8KOs. Mariana started pro boxing in 1998. Suszannah started in 2005.

Suszannah was a soccer player and started boxing as re-hab for a knee injury. She’s already packed a lot into a short space of time. She won the 106 lb division of the New York Golden Gloves and the National Amateur Championships before turning pro.

Her motto is to never give up on your dreams. And in Mexico City she said: “Coming to anyone’s home town is tough, but I’ve got strength of mind, I’m here to do a job and I’ll do my job. If I do exactly what we’ve trained to do I’ll take the title with me. I’m trained to go fifty rounds if that’s necessary. I’m here to win this, and God Almighty I’m going to take it on.”

Mariana who’s fought some of the very best to become one of the very best, has regularly sparred with the much bigger Mia St John who describes her as very tough and able to hold her own against me.

Mariana said: “Suszannah is durable. She’s never been stopped. To me, she’s also something of an unknown quantity. But I’m in absolutely great shape and I’m the Champion. Suszannah is coming into the den of the lioness, and she’s not going away with the spoils.”
