Former WBC Super Flyweight Champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai scored a quickfire stoppage win over Albert Alcoy in Bangkok this afternoon, stopping the overmatched Filipino journey man in the second round to register a 14th consecutive victory.
Suriyan’s WBC Asia Boxing Council Bantamweight Title was on the line and he worked behind a fast jab in the opening round, at one point catching Alcoy off balance and sending him stumbling across the ring with a one-two combination.
Alcoy came into this bout with only one win in his last 12 bouts and so it was no surprise when the Filipino succumbed in the second stanza, Suriyan landing a left hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head and a straight right hand which sent him to the canvas.
Alcoy proceeded to get to his feet and stumble around the ring theatrically causing the referee to call off the contest. With the win Suriyan improves to 34-5-1 and moves a step closer towards another world title shot while his opponent drops to 14-18-7.
Also on the card was a fight which, even by Thai standards, was exceptionally mismatched with reigning WBC Super Flyweight Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai taking on debutant Den Nattaporngym in a non title bout.
Srisaket took out the novice in under a round to improve to 26-2-1 but far tougher tests await the WBC 115 lbs champion who is scheduled to defend his belt against 21-0 Carlos Cuadras in a big money match in Mexico later this year.
Earlier in the afternoon 21 year old Thai flyweight Kongfah Nakornluang improved to 11-0 with a routine win over Indonesian Safwan Lombok, who drops to 1-23-1 and is now 0-12 against Thai opponents.
