Former welterweight Luis Collazo will go under the knife on Feb. 22 as a result of injuries suffered in his decision loss to Shane Mosley on Feb. 10 in Las Vegas. According to Collazo, he suffered a fractured left thumb and some ligament damage during the second round of the fight. He also needed five stitches to close a cut on his left eyelid, caused by a clash of heads in the fourth round. Collazo is currently wearing a cast on his hand.

Collazo told scribe Dan Rafael that he sustained the injuries when he began to land numerous left hands during the second round. After the fight was over, Collazo was briefed on his injuries after going to a local hospital and taking X-rays.

Nirmal Lorick, Collazo's trainer and adviser, told Rafael that Collazo could be out action for up to four months.

"He didn't complain to me in the corner after it happened," Lorick said. "He just tapped his hand. I knew something was wrong. But Luis never complained. He just kept fighting. He's got a lot of heart."
