Renowned German trainer Michael Timm has passed away at the age of 62 after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Timm grew up in what was then East Germany and was a good amateur boxer and was trained by the legendary Fritz Sdunek at famous Traktor Schwerin club. He won a gold medal at the 1985 European Championships in Budapest
He then became a trainer and became head coach for Traktor Schwerin in what now was a unified Germany.
Timm then joined the professional ranks and was hired by the Universum Box Promotion and worked with the boxers like Juergen Braehmer, Sergej Dzindziruk, Andreas Kotelnik, Wladimir Sidorenko Ruslan Chagaev, Felix Sturm, Juan Carlos Gomez – all, sooner or later, world champions – and many others.
When Universum shut down, Timm returned to Traktor Schwerin and amateur boxing and worked with the German national team, too.A Timm-trained fighter was very well conditioned, well-schooled to the point where some would say they were mechanical, well-disciplined and strong on the basics.
Timm was, along with Fritz Sdunek, Ulli Wegner and Torsten Schmitz, one of the top trainers during a golden era in German boxing when Universum and Sauerland Event produced one world champion after another.
