BoxingScene.com recently caught up with decorated amateur and undefeated light heavyweight prospect Sullivan Barrera (12-0). Speaking through his manager Luis Molina in this Q&A, the 32-year-old Cuban talks about his recent victory over Lee Campbell, the top fighters in the division, and more.
BoxingScene.com: How do you rate your performance in your last fight against Lee Campbell who was undefeated at the time?
Sullivan Barrera: It was an important victory, It was a knockout I haven't had a knockout since 2011. I'm continuing to work on improving my craft my goal is the title and not only winning a title but winning it convincingly.
BoxingScene.com: When can the fans expect to see you back in the ring?
Sullivan Barrera: As of right now we are looking at September 20th. My promoter Main Events is working on that date. Currently I've been preparing for my fight in Big Bear, California with Abel Sanchez. I'm very excited to be working with him. We are making some adjustments and training really hard as my road to the title continues.
BoxingScene.com: When do you think you will be ready to step up and fight for a world title?
Sullivan Barrera: I hope soon, by the end of next year I'm ready. My Manager and promoter are working hard on keeping me active and that's what I like. I have more than 300 amateur fights. I'm used to being busy!
BoxingScene.com: Give us your thoughts on the light heavyweight Division and who do you think are the top three?
Sullivan Barrera: Well you must respect what Bernard Hopkins has done in the division. I definitely think he's a top tier guy. I think the top 3 guys in the division are the champions Sergey Kovalev, Adonis Stevenson and Bernard Hopkins.
BoxingScene.com: Is there anyone in particular you want to fight?
Sullivan Barrera: I think part of being a champion is fighting the best guys out there. I want to fight the top tier guys. It's unfortunate that some of the guys in the light heavyweight division can't seem to fight each other because of the 'so called behind the scenes conflicts". I'm ready to fight them and I'm ready to give the fans what they want and that a show.
BoxingScene.com: Do you have a message for the fans?
Sullivan Barrera: I just want to let the fans know that you can follow my quest to the title on instagram: @elmastalentoso on twitter: @sullivanbarrera and check out my website www.sullivanbarrera.com.
