World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman says that he wants a statue of Muhammad Ali to adorn Madison Square Garden, known as the Cathedral of Boxing.

Under the auspices of the WBC, Mexican sculptor Mario Rendon has already created a statue of Carlos Monzon in Santa Fe in Argentina. And his next creation, is a statue of Rocky Marciano which will be placed in his hometown of Brockton. It’s scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

Don Jose says the next project will involve creating a sculpture of The Greatest and commented: “I would like to do this with the participation of the whole world of boxing and locate it where it will be most meaningful, like in front of Madison Square Garden in New York. That would be fantastic because that’s where the boxing and sporting people go. And Muhammad Ali was the king of all sports.”

Don Jose says that if possible, he wants the Muhammad Ali project completed within a year.
