World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has no issue with Floyd Mayweather Jr. defending his WBC welterweight title against Andre Berto on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Berto is a former WBC welterweight champion and Sulaiman thinks he is capable of presenting a dangerous challenge to Mayweather's undefeated record.
The fight has not officially been announced, but many are stating that Berto is the frontrunner being considered and the bout would head to Showtime Pay-Per-View.
"Mayweather has earned the respect of the organization and the loyalty that he's shown to us is unwavering. Being the best in the world for so many years and being that he's such a close friend to us, there is no rush for anything [on making a decision on his next fight]," Sulaiman told the press in Mexico.
"Berto is a major fighter. He had a very glorious moment when he was the WBC champion at welterweight, and then with Victor Ortiz he had an impressive battle where both of them went down. [Berto] is strong, dedicated and he could be a major challenger. If well trained, he will be dangerous."
"He had a fight with Josesito Lopez that he won. I feel that he is already at a level where an upset can happen at any time. I do not rule Berto out at all."
