According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, he will do everything in his power to help put together a unification between WBC champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (44-0, 38KOs) and WBA/WBO flyweight champion Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada (33-2, 24KOs).
Gonzalez returned last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he stopped Brian Viloria in nine rounds. Estrada defeated Viloria by split decision in early 2013 to win his current belts.
Gonzalez won a twelve round decision over Estrada in 2012 at junior flyweight. Estrada claims to have been weak at that weight and feels much stronger at 112.
Sulaiman says a rematch between the two fighters would be one of the best bouts in the sport.
Since the recent retirement of Floyd Mayweather Jr., several major outlets have recognized Gonzalez as the number one pound for pound fighter in boxing. Estrada is also a name that many consider as being one of the best fighters in the world, pound-for-pound.
“We would love for a fight to take place between our champion Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez. And we're going to try to make it happen. Gallo Estrada is one of the best boxers of today, and a rematch against Chocolatito would be fantastic," Sulaiman said.
"Chocolatito proved why he's ranked as the best pound for pound fighter in the sport, with the manner in which he defeated Brian Viloria... it was spectacular."
