WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout is the perfect opponent for WBC king Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, according to World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman. In his past fights, Trout defeated David Lopez and also dominated Canelo's older brother Rigoberto Alvarez. The two fighters are close to a deal to face each other on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined by a welterweight battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero.
"Trout will be a great challenger, but Canelo is one of our strongest champions and I'm sure that he will demonstrate his ability and talent in this fight. Trout is a southpaw, skillful, fast and unbeaten. To achieve victory, Alvarez must cover all of his bases and be consistent in throwing punches," Sulaiman added.
Canelo, only 22-years-old, has a record of 41-0, 30 knockouts and a single draw. Trout is 26-0 with 14 knockouts. In his most recent performance, won a clear twelve round unanimous decision over Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto last December in New York.
