Pursuant to a recent order by the WBO, Nathan Cleverly has to defend his light heavyweight crown against mandatory challenger Dmitry Sukhotsky (18-1, 13KOs) no later than February 29th. But, it was recently announced that Cleverly would return on February 25th against Tommy Karpency. The WBO is not enforcing the order and Sukhotsky continues to wait for a shot. The Russian fighter is very upset with the recent situation.
"I thought he was just a coward, but now I see that he's a jerk as well. He's hiding behind his promoter and wants to hold on to the championship by participating in easy fights. I didn't [fight my way] to become the official challenger to see [the champion] constantly running away from the fight. I earned the right for this fight. I'm not going to wait. Time is money. I'm hoping for a just solution by the WBO regarding this situation."
