World rated Randy Suico as expected scored a fourth round TKO over a patsy from Thailand named Pongpetch Chuwatana who earlier had to shed two pounds in order to make the lightweight limit.
In what well known boxing analyst Moy Lainez described as a mismatch, Chuwatana who amazingly fought for the vacant title despite having a record of 14 defeats against only 9 wins with 7 KO’s had nothing to show against the hard-hitting Suico who is managed by Japanese Joe Koizumi.
Koizumi has come under a barrage of criticism from Filipino fight fans for continuing to feed Suico with a collection of bums thereby ensuring that he would maintain his champion’s status in the OPBF. However. when Suico is matched against world caliber fighters he is exposed and badly beaten. Even Suico’s trainer Juanito Ablaca has come under fire for his methods that have stymied the progress of the lanky, hard hitting former WBC No. 2 super featherweight.
Suico decked the overmatched Chuwatana twice in the fourth round with solid uppercuts and respected international referee Bruce McTavish didn’t even bother to count. The official time was 2:08 of the fourth round. With the win Suico who is ranked No. 9 by the WBC improved to 25-3 with 22 KO.s
Lainez who was at ringside to watch Rod Nazario’s protégé Eden Sonsona defend his Philippine super flyweight title said Suico “cannot be a world champion. He is very slow.” Lainez added Chuwatana showed “nothing.”
The Sonsona-JeropeMercado title clash was a far better fight with the young champion dropping Mercado twice in the ninth round with a wicked right forcing referee Tony Pesons to call a halt. Lainez said Sonsona will defend his title against No.1 contender Robert Allanic of the famed ALA Gym this December in Binagonan, Rizal.
