BANGKOK, Thailand - It was today confirmed by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman that the January 10 contest for the junior welterweight title between Subriel Matias and Dalton Smith will go ahead despite the former failing a VADA test.
Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator, one known to boost testosterone and endurance, and was found to have been in Matias’ system following a test that was conducted on November 9.
Matias will be placed on probation for one year and undergo further testing – at his cost – between now and the contest. Sulaiman declared they were confident that the positive test was a consequence of contaminated supplements. Despite the 'probation' he will still be permitted to fight Smith at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
“He is not guilty, he has not been found at any level of consuming performance enhancing drugs,” Sulaiman said before adding that his organisation's Clean Boxing Program required updating due to the amount of supplements on the market that contain substances that are on the WADA banned list.
The winner of Matias, 23-2 (22 KOs), versus Smith, 18-0 (13 KOs), will be ordered to face mandatory contender, Alberto Puello.
Meanwhile, on December 6, the WBC interim title is at stake when Isaac Cruz takes on Lamont Roach.
