Emanuel Steward, trainer of WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28KOs), expects high drama very early during Saturday's fight against Ricardo Mayorga (29-7, 23KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout will be broadcast live on Showtime pay-per-view. Steward and Cotto are predicting an early knockout victory. Steward predicts Mayorga is going to come out in the first round with wild punches.
"For Mayorga, you have to have two or three plans to fight because he's looking to hit a home run and he's dangerous. You have to be ready to box and not allow (Mayorga) to be a bully, "said Steward. "The key to the fight will be short, accurate punches. Miguel is one of the best when connecting from a short distance. I do not think it will be a boring fight, we expect a high-action."
Cotto is ready for a war. He's not worried about Mayorga going after him early because he sees many mistakes in his style.
"I'm ready for everything Mayorga brings. I'll take advantage of the mistakes that Mayorga commits that night," said Cotto. "I never said that's it's going to be an easy fight, but I have prepared enough for anything. I will capitalize on his mistakes and I know that night he will bring many."
