On Friday night at the Bell Centre in Quebec, super middleweight Adonis Stevenson (18-1, 15 KOs) rushed forward to stop Noe Gonzalez (28-2, 20 KOs) in the second round. Stevenson, 34-years-old, is on the verge of landing a title shot opportunity. Going by the rankings, Stevenson is getting close to challenging IBF champion Lucian Bute or WBC king Andre Ward.
"I would like to face Andre Ward or Lucian Bute, but between the two, I prefer Lucian Bute in Montreal. That would be a pretty good fight," Stevenson said.
However, Stevenson's next fight could come against undefeated Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KOs). Ward is refusing to make a mandatory defense against Dirrell, which could lead to a clash between Dirrell and Stevenson for the vacant title, according to Stevenson's promoter Yvon Michel.
