Promoter Yvon Michel of GYM advised RDS in Canada that the light heavyweight rematch between WBC champion Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) and top challenger Andrzej Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The rematch was recently announced by Stevenson, and takes place on June 3rd.

Michel also confirmed a recent report on BoxingScene.com, that a deal is being negotiated for a co-featured attraction between undefeated light heavyweight world champion Eleider Alvarez (22-0, 11 KOs) and former WBC world champion Jean Pascal.

The goal is likely to match the winners of the two light heavyweight encounters in the fall.

Alvarez is the mandatory challenger to Stevenson. He last saw action back in February, when he knocked out former world champion Lucian Bute in five rounds. It was Bute's first knockout defeat since losing to Carl Froch. A step-aside deal was reached to allow Stevenson to fight Fonfara. If Pascal were to pull off the upset, and Stevenson won his fight, it would set up a long awaited grudge match in Canada.

Stevenson and Fonfara first met in May of 2014, in and the champion won a twelve round unanimous decision. After Fonfara was dropped and badly hurt in the early rounds, the fight appeared to be on the verge of being over - but the Polish fighter came back strong in the championship rounds and even dropped a tiring Stevenson.

Since then, Stevenson has defended and retained his belt four times - with the last fight taking place last July with a knockout victory over Thomas Williams.

Fonfara won four of his last five. He was shockingly knocked out in the first round by Joe Smith last June in what was a big upset. Fonfara bounced back last month at the Barclays Center in New York, when he stopped former world champion Chad Dawson in ten rounds.
