IBF super bantamweight champion Steve "The Canadian Kid" Molitor (27-0, 10KOs) is smarter than most people thought. I reported last week that Molitor was dumping his Canadian promoter Allan Tremblay and manager James Jardine - to accept an offer of 2-year deal worth $2 million dollars from controversial New Jersey-based promoter Murad Muhammad.
MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com was informed that Molitor, probably after reading last week's piece ( click here to view ), is backing off the deal with Muhammad and returning to promoter Tremblay and manager Jardine.
Tremblay and Warriors Boxing had recently reached a verbal deal to match Molitor in a unification bout with WBA champion Celestino Caballero in November. The event will take place in Canada. When the Muhammad deal came to light, the fight was in jeopardy, but now the two sides can continue working to finalize the bout.
"Everyone makes mistakes and I have a made a monumental one," Molitor said. "Bowing to the influence of people around me who had their own interests at heart, and deceived by the promise of mega-dollars that really were not there, I went down a path I should never have contemplated. Tremblay and Jardine were gracious enough to accept me back in the fold."
