Former champion Humberto "Zorrita" Soto is attempting to speed up the process of securing another title opportunity. Soto recently vacated the WBC lightweight title and announced a move in weight to 140-pounds. He returns on Saturday September 3 against tough Nicaraguan Jose Alfaro, a former WBA champion. Soto (56-7-2, 32 KOs) will face Alfaro (25-7-0, 22 knockouts) in Los Mochis, but the venue has not been officially announced.

Soto has revealed that his fight with Alfaro will possibly have the WBC's interim-junior welterweight title at stake. Countryman Erik Morales and Lucas Matthysse of Argentina will compete for the vacant full WBC title on September 17th.
