Lightweight contender Jose Felix Jr. (29-1-1, 24KOs) has advised BoxingScene.com that there is a good possibility that he will face former multi-division champion Humberto Soto (65-8-2, 35KOs) on June 27th at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The fight would serve as the HBO televised co-feature in support of the Tim Bradley-Jessie Vargas main event.
"The fight isn't finalized. They are still negotiating. Hopefully they give me the fight," said Felix Jr.
Soto was originally scheduled to face Ray Beltran but as first reported by BoxingScene.com, Beltran failed his post fight drug test following his May 1st second round knockout of Takahiro Ao.
Felix was scheduled to face Yakubu Amidu on June 13th in the main event of a Solo Boxeo card at Hollywood Gardens. That fight would obviously be cancelled if an agreement is reached for Felix to face Soto.
The Los Mochis, Sinaloa native fell short in his first attempt for a world title last year against Bryan Vasquez. He knows that a win over Soto would open a lot of doors for him.
"I really hope they make this fight happen. It is an interesting fight with a lot at stake. I will be ready," Felix told BoxingScene.com.
