Former three-division titlist Humberto Soto (60-8-2, 34KOs) picked up his second straight win with a hard-fought unanimous decision over Silverio Ortiz (26-14, 12KOs) in their 12-round battle Saturday evening in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico.
Scores were 117-110 (twice) and 118-108 in favor of Soto, who continues on the comeback trail after last June's stoppage loss to Lucas Matthysse.
The Ceja brothers were also victorious in undercard action.
Unbeaten bantamweight contender Julio Ceja scored a 5th round knockout over a determined Henry Maldonando (16-2-1, 11KO). A see-saw battle literally came to a crashing halt when Ceja (24-0, 22KO) connected with a right uppercut to put Maldonando down and out at 2:13 of round five.
Luis Ceja snapped a two-fight skid with a corner stoppage after four rounds of action against Alejandro Morales in their light flyweight battle. Ceja (23-3, 19KO) scored a knockdown late in the fourth, with Morales (14-3, 7KO) - already with a swollen eye from the third round on - refusing to come out of his corner to start the fifth round.
