Undefeated WBO super flyweight champion “ Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona (14-0, 12 KO’s) has trained “just enough” for his first title defense against Mexican  Alejandro Hernandez (22-7-1, 11 KO’s) at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada in a fight to be telecast on Sunday by Solar Sports and GMA 7.

Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani who has handled the career of Sonsona and teamed up with Sampson Lewkowicz to get the 19 year old southpaw a crack at the title of Jose “Carita” Lopez last September 4 didn’t sound too elated over Sonsona’s condition following reports that Sonsona appeared to have gotten swell-headed after he won the title and hadn’t trained as hard as he should for his first title defense.

When asked about his condition Gello-ani  told us “well his condition is okay” adding that he had trained “just enough.”

Gello-ani was unclear about what his exact weight was since when he left Manila he weighed around 124 pounds which was nine pounds over the super flyweight limit. Gello-ani said the weigh in would take place on the morning of the fight and indicated “he will get the weight for this fight.”

Sonsona went jogging in the morning despite the cold weather in Ontario, Canada and was scheduled to work out in the Cabbage Town gym in the afternoon as he  winds down training for his first title defense against Hernandez .

The 23 year old Hernandez was beaten in his last fight against Wilbert Uicab for the vacant Mexican flyweight title as well as the North American Boxing Federation crown. Hernandez dropped a twelve round unanimous decision but before the Uicab fight had won back-to-back fights by TKO.

Hernandez won by a 10th round TKO over Jose Tamayo last July 8 and before that scored a 6th round TKO over Francisco Marquez last April 22.

The fight  will be held at the Casino Rama Hotel in Ontario which was the same venue where Sonsona won the title with a rousing twelfth round unanimous decision over Puerto Rican veteran, “Carita” Lopez.
