BoxingScene.com was informed by sources in Puerto Rico that Marvin Sonsona (14-0-1, 12KOs) and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (17-0-1, 14KOs) will battle on February 27. I've heard the fight will take place in Puerto Rico, with the vacant WBO super bantamweight title at stake. The title belonged to Juan Manuel Lopez, who is moving up in weight and challenging the WBO's featherweight champion Steven Luevano on January 23.
Sonsona will need to be on top of his game when he takes on Vazquez. He outgrew super flyweight and now moves up by two weight divisions. The 19-year-old is still growing. He grew by two-inches in a year. But he needs to focus on his training with a more serious approach.
When he took on Alejandro Hernandez in November, he was not in shape and nearly suffered his first loss. The end decision was a draw. Before the fight even took place, there were reports that Sonsona was skipping days in training camp and not pushing himself in the gym because he saw Hernandez as an easy fight.
