The Philippine champions from Luzon continuously shamed their challengers from Cebu after light flyweight Sonny Boy Jaro and super flyweight Eden Sonsona retained their national titles, Saturday night in Binangonan, Rizal (east of Manila), Philippines.
Jaro, the pride of Rizal province, figured in split draw against former titlist Wyndell Janiola of Mandaue City.
One judge gave Jaro 116-113 verdict while the other official favored Janiola 115-114. The third scorecard read 115-115 even.
Jaro’s record is now 24-5-5 with 15 knockouts in his fourth defense of the title and second against Cebu-based challengers next to Jojo Bardon and Along Denoy.
Janiola (18-4-1, 9 KOs) held the RP 108-lb title in 2002. In his succeeding fight in July in Dapitan City, Janiola won the version of the title under Philippine Boxing Federation in expense of durable Philip Parcon of Davao City.
Sonsona, only 17-years-old, earned a technical decision win over top ranked Robert Allanic when the referee stopped the fight in round 6.
Allanic (16-2, 7 knockouts) suffered cuts in rounds 5 over his right eyebrow and a bigger wound to the left eyebrow from another accidental headbutt, forcing to the ring physician to advice the stoppage of the contest and consulted the scorecards.
The Paranaque City’s Sonsona (11-1, 2 KOs) was way ahead in three tallies, two 57-56 decisions and 58-54 to retain his title for the second time in as many challengers from Cebu after Jeroper Mercado in his last fight in October.
