According to overseas reports, former top heavyweight contender Sinan Samil Sam (31-4, 16KOs)  remains in critical condition at a hospital in İstanbul. Sam was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after vomiting blood. Turkish Boxing Federation Chairman Eyüp Gözgeç spoke to the media on Sunday and said they are closely monitoring Sam’s condition. Sam was the first Turkish boxer to win a world championship as a professional.

After winning the EBU heavyweight title with a twelve round decision over Paolo Vidoz in 2008, Sam quit boxing to protest the lack of support for the amateur boxing system in Turkey.
