Madrid-based Romanian Silvio Olteanu won the vacant EBU flyweight title in La Coruna with a split decision win after twelve rounds of boxing against Valery Yanchy, who hails from Belorus but resides in La Coruna. It was scored 115-113 for Yanchy and 114-113 and 116-114 for Olteanu for Olteanu.
Last year, they fought to a drawt for the same title, left vacant by Italian Andrea Sarritzu, and it was very close this around time as well, but Olteanu sealed the deal on a very narrow win with a strong final round.
Reports from Spain indicate that most of the crowd of 2,000 at the Palacio de los Deportes de Riazor disagreed with the verdict.
