Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza is open to the idea of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
The fight took place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision.
The fight shattered financial records with 4.4 million pay-per-view buys and $500 million in revenue is expected for the event.
Mayweather is scheduled to return on September 12th. He claims the fight will be the final ring appearance of his pro career. Pacquiao is recovering from shoulder surgery and won't see action until 2016.
But Espinoza cautions that his network will pursue the rematch - if the demand is there. Right now the demand is not there (at least not the kind of demand that was generated over the last five years), as many fans have soured over the idea of watching them fight again.
"I think we have to remain open to it. There’s a lot of chatter on both sides about the possibility – once Manny successfully recovers from [shoulder] surgery, if there a demand and if Floyd is still active or would consider coming back to being active then it would be a topic of conversation. But it will be driven by demand," Espinoza told Multi Channel News.
