LAS VEGAS – Shawn Porter hasn’t dwelled on the lopsided odds handicappers have set for his showdown with Terence Crawford on Saturday night.

Crawford was an astounding 9-1 favorite a couple of weeks ago, though the odds have narrowed since then. As of Friday afternoon, Caesars Sportsbook listed Crawford as a 7-1 favorite to beat Porter in their 12-round fight for Crawford’s WBO welterweight title.

While that’s a testament to Crawford’s power, ring IQ, skill and speed, it still seems disrespectful to Porter. The former IBF/WBC welterweight champion has lost only a majority decision to a then-unbeaten Kell Brook, a debatable unanimous decision to then-undefeated Keith Thurman and a split decision to Errol Spence Jr., who remains unbeaten.

The 34-year-old Porter undoubtedly is the best opponent Crawford has been scheduled to face since he moved up to the welterweight division early in 2018. The odds don’t reflect Porter’s accomplishments, durability and status within their division, but the Akron, Ohio, native hasn’t harped on the official odds.

“I really don’t care if I’m a underdog,” Porter said Wednesday before a press conference at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. “I really don’t care what the betting lines are like. I don’t wanna justify why they’re making the lines the way that they’re making them. So, the best thing I’m gonna do is go in that ring and punch Terence Crawford in the mouth. And people that win money, they win. The people that lose money, they lose.”

The 34-year-old Porter, a Las Vegas resident, did admit that the wide odds have driven him even more to prove he is good enough to defeat a fighter widely viewed as one of three best, pound-for-pound, in the sport.

“Definitely, for myself, it’s not a matter of me feeling like I got nothing to lose,” Porter said. “But definitely, I just wanna speak to like the underdog role in general. I don’t know if that’s a feeling of not having something to lose, so much as it is a feeling of wanting to prove doubters wrong and prove those who believe you and are with you right. And that’s where I’m at. Best part about it, man, is I just developed a style at an early age that’s always been exciting. And you’re right, it's very much, this fight, just like most, are just about me going out there and being myself.”

Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs), who has won world titles in three weight classes, and Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs), a former IBF and WBC welterweight champ, will headline a four-fight pay-per-view show from Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena. The telecast, which will start at 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT, costs $69.99, yet it also requires at least a one-month subscription to ESPN+ ($6.99).
