BoxingScene.com spoke to promoter Gary Shaw about the recent comments that Kelly Pavlik's trainer, Jack Loew, made in an interview that ran earlier on BoxingScene. "Loew can do all the talking he wants. He can call out the world but the fact is that until Top Rank decides to stop fighting all of their fighters in-house.....fights like these can't happen."
Shaw said that he and his fighters would be willing to fight Pavlik and that the weight wouldn't be an issue.
"[Alfredo] Angulo and Chad [Dawson] would have no problem fighting Pavlik. We could go up in weight or down in weight. That wouldn't be an issue but Top Rank needs to tear down the walls and match their fighters with other promoter's fighters," Shaw said.
When I mentioned that he had a co-promotion coming up in September with Top Rank for the Juan Manuel Lopez-Rafael Marquez showdown, Shaw said the fight was put together because of his partnership on Marquez with Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions. Beltran is the co-promoter of Marquez and Top Rank's partner in Mexico.
"Pavlik's team needs to get [Bob] Arum to do fights with other promoters and if they can accomplish that then we will be able to do a fight. Top Rank needs to make us a fair offer. We want half of the international money. All they have to do is give me a call and make a fair offer," Shaw said.
