BoxingScene.com was advised by Gary Shaw, promoter of junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo, that deal to fight Sergio Martinez on July 9 in Mexico is "not even close." The two sides have discussed a possible meeting but they are "too far apart on the money," according to Shaw.
Last year, Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella tried to make a fight with Angulo, who at the time turned down an offer of $750,000. The Mexican junior middleweight was later hit with a serious visa problem which is preventing him from fighting in the United States.
Shaw would not disclose the purse being offered, but he says the figure is "substantially less" than the $750K that was offered las year.
"We are so far apart that there's nothing to talk about," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
