Promoter Gary Shaw says WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto made a big mistake in selecting former three time champion Daniel Geale as the opponent of choice for June 6th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

If Cotto wins, he is then likely going to face Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. The last time Cotto was in line to face Canelo, he took on Austin Trout in a junior middleweight contest in December of 2012 at Madison Square Garden. The fight did not go as expected with Trout piling up the points to hand Cotto his first defeat at MSG. It was Trout who went on to face Canelo the following year.

Shaw is expecting the same form of a loss to get handed to the Puerto Rican fighter next month. The fight with Geale is at a catch-weight of 157-pounds, with Shaw stating that his boxer will be a lot bigger on fight night.

"I think this will be a lot like the fight with Trout. With a lot of movement and Miguel has problems with that. That's what gave Miguel problems with Trout. Daniel is a good fighter, and uses a lot of body movement," Shaw told El Vocero.

"I also think it was a bad decision for Miguel [to take this fight]. I see Geale moving a lot. He has a lot more movement than Miguel, and [Geale] will also have a lot  more reach. Also, [Miguel] could be facing a guy who could be as a high as 175-pounds. I will be interesting to see the effect of the weight in the fight."
