In the aftermath of Saturday's fight between Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez, promoter Gary Shaw said that IBO bantamweight champion Vic Darchinyan called him to congratulate Marquez and to express his continued interest in a fight with him.
Darchinyan would be willing to move up three weight classes to challenge Marquez. Darchinyan's last move up in weight, for a major fight, wasn't successful as he lost a twelve round decision last year to Joseph Agbeko at the 118-pound limit. A few days ago Darchinyan tried his luck again by moving to capture the IBO title against an overmatched Eric Barcelona. Against Marquez, Darchinyan would have to move up to 126-pounds, and Marquez would probably be at least 135-pounds by fight night.
Gary Shaw said he would be talking to both parties soon. "I will talk numbers to Team Darchinyan soon and I will also talk to Fernando Beltran of Zafner (Marquez' Mexican promoter) about the fight as well. I think it would be a great fight between two warriors."
