Boxer Shannon Taylor continues his tough road to recovery after being taken off the critical list and even waking briefly to complain about the comfort of his hospital bed. The display of customary humor is a far cry from this time last week when doctors at Wollongong Hospital contemplated switching off his life support.
Late on Saturday, partner Bec posted a message on Taylor's Facebook page, saying his condition had improved.
''Shan was awake today, has been taken off life support and has just been having a little oxygen. So another step forward on the long road ahead.''
But the 39-year-old is not out of the woods and remains in Wollongong's intensive care unit, his condition improved from critical to serious, but stable. The WBF middleweight boxing champion, known as the ''Bulli Blaster'', was hospitalized last Monday following a suspected drug overdose. It is understood that, since then, his battle has been hour by hour and that he periodically breathes on his own, only to be returned to a respirator.
