Heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs is targeting Tyson Fury for a battle of former world champions - once they have eliminated their respective suspensions.

Ironically, both boxers have suffered suspensions over failed drug tests.

Briggs' suspension expires on Tuesday. Fury on the other hand, must sort out his suspension with UK Anti-Doping, who claim the boxer tested positive for a banned substance in early 2015. There is a hearing being planned, but Fury has been waiting for what seems like forever for a date.

Fury has been out of the ring since November of 2015, when he shocked Wladimir Klitschko with a twelve round unanimous decision to capture the WBO, IBO, WBA, IBF world heavyweight titles.

After that win, the boxer fell on hard times with mental health issues and abusing alcohol and recreational drugs. He lost his boxing license, but is now working towards a return in 2018.

Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs), a former WBO heavyweight champion, has been inactive since a knockout win over Emilio Ezequiel Zarate in May 2016.

He was slated to face Fres Oquendo for the vacant WBA "regular" heavyweight title, but the contest was called off after Briggs failed a pre-fight drug test.

Now Briggs is placing a target on the back of Fury.

"My target is Tyson Fury. He's a chump, he's a punk," Briggs exclusively told Sky Sports. "He shot some words at me on Twitter but he's scared of me. It's a tough road back for him and I'm a fight that he doesn't want.

"This is the biggest fight for both of us, besides him getting a massive title fight. If he needs a tune-up for a title fight, why not fight a 45,000-year-old man? I like Fury but I want to knock him out. Once I knock out 'the whale' - that's what I call Fury - I bet that Wladimir Klitschko will come back [to fight me]."

"As far as his depression, I've got love for him. I respect and understand what he's going through."
