Former WBO world heavyweight champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (58-6-1, 51 KOs) had his first fight of 2015 and knocked out Hungarian journeyman Zoltan Petranyi (51-22-1, 16 KOs) with bodyshots at the Hotel Sortis in Panama City, Panama.
Briggs fought six times in 2014 and stopped five of those opponents in the first round. Raphael Zumbano Love took Briggs the entire twelve round distance to lose a lopsided decision. Petranyu, 48-years-old and coming off a third round knockout loss in December, was on the verge of retirement before accepting this late opportunity to face Briggs. It is likely he will move forward with his plans to call it a day.
