LOS ANGELES - In light of the strides MMA has taken with Ronda Rousey, Shane Mosley has decided someone in boxing needed to stand up for women in boxing as well. Taking a stand against blatant sexism in boxing, Future Hall-of-Fame boxer “Sugar” Shane Mosley has announced he has added a title bout between Maureen Shea “The Real Million Dollar Baby” and Yulihan Avila to the card at Mosley Vs. Mayorga 2, the much anticipated rematch between Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga August 29 at the Forum in Los Angeles on August 29th, 2015.
Mosley’s controversial decision to showcase the two popular and dynamic female fighters marks the first time a women’s title fight has been a part of the undercard at a major men’s PPV boxing match in over a decade.
“It’s an embarrassment to boxing that UFC and MMA show more respect to their women fighters than the boxing world does, and it's about time we caught up,” said Mosley, who is also pioneering as the first major name boxer to promote an independent Pay Per View as part of Mosley Vs. Mayorga 2. “I just hope the community gets behind me in this decision by buying the PPV and coming out to support at the Forum live.”
Known as the "Real Million Dollar Baby" because of her work with Hilary Swank in preparation for the hit 2005 movie, Million Dollar Baby, Shea (24-2-0,12KOs) is the current IFBA Jr Featherweight World Champion, current NABA Featherweight Champion, former NABF and former Interim WBC Featherweight Champion. Shea, who is of Irish and Mexican descent, will battle up and coming Mexican boxer Yulihan Avila (12-2-0, 1KO)
Mosley’s promotion company, GoBox Promotions, will broadcast Mosley v Mayorga 2 live at 10 pm ET/7 pm PT on Pay-Per-View in the USA and Canada with distribution by Integrated Sports via all cable and satellite providers for under $50. In doing so, Mosley is making the fight affordable for the majority of boxing fans, while still being able to recoup his million-dollar investment. Tickets start at $35 and are available through The Forum box office and Ticketmaster.com.
“I am ready for war these days and I don't care what kind of blocks they try and put up: I am making a stand,” said Mosley. “It's time somebody stood up and demanded things change. Thankfully I have the name and the funds to do that at Mosley Vs. Mayorga 2."
