In a war of words that nobody expected, former three division world champion 'Sugar' Shane Mosley (48-9-1, 40KOs) and newly crowned WBO junior middleweight champion Liam 'Beefy' Smith (21-0-1, 11KOs) were taking shots at each other on social media.
Smith captured the vacant title on Saturday night with a seventh round stoppage of Thompson.
Mosley was last in the ring in August, when he stopped Ricardo Mayorga in the sixth round of their rematch. The fight took place at a catch-weight of 166 and Mosley weighed in a shade under 160.
It all started after Mosley cracked a joke on the Smith-Thompson fight poster, promoting Smith to say "I didn't once disrespect you, old man. So don't start."
Mosley fired back - "I'm old. So old I will snatch your title away quick as you got it. He don't want these hands. They gonna try to shoot me a low ball offer no one would take to save face."
Things even got personal when Smith fired off "mate, you let Mayorga grab your woman's arse and done nothing about it, say no more mate."
Mosley says he is currently in talks for a "big fight" but if that falls through he'll consider heading to the UK in December to face Smith on the Andy Lee vs. Billy Joe Saunders undercard.
