New Zealand heavyweight champion Shane Cameron (17-0, 15KOs) is still in the hunt to fight his fellow countryman, David Tua. Cameron told the New Zealand Times that he can't believe that Tua turned down an offer $250,000 and agreed to fight journeyman Robert Hawkins in New York for less than $50,000 on 2/22.
"Me beating David is going to finish his career and I believe that's what will happen if we do end up fighting. He knows that and that's why he's not taking the fight," Cameron said.
The managers of both fighters have conflicting views on how much the fight is actually worth. Tua's manager Robina Tua said that $250,000 is a joke and won't consider the fight unless the offer is doubled to $500,000. Cameron's manager Keith Reinsfield said that her offer is the real joke.
"Half a million dollars? We could get a world ranked fighter, we could get a fighter ranked in the top ten for half a million dollars. To me David Tua's scared of Shane Cameron, scared of losing without a doubt and I believe he will lose," added Reinsfield.
Cameron will face Bob Mirovic on the undercard to Anthony Mundine's rematch with Sam Soliman on March 7 in Sydney.
