Heavyweight contender Shane Cameron (20-1, 18KOs) of New Zealand is taking on what he calls the toughest opponent of his career, Andre Purlette (40-3, 35KOs). The fight takes place in Wellington on June 28th in the top slot of a card called "Capital Punishment."
Purlette holds a variety of knockout wins over fringe contenders like Jimmy Thunder, Jeremy Bates and Crawford Grimsley. His biggest win was a six-round decision over Darnell Wilson in 2006. He's coming off a two-round stoppage loss to undefeated contender Aaron Williams.
Cameron is trying to get back in the rankings after suffering the first loss of his career to Friday Ahunanya last November. The fight was bloody with Cameron's face suffering numerous cuts during the action. Ahunanya stopped him in the twelfth and final round. Cameroan returned to action last month, stopping Jonathan Haggler.
"He's got the best record of anyone I've fought," Cameron told NZPA. "He'll be the most skilled as well. I expect he's going to be quite sharp and fast. We're working on having some sharp sparring partners so I can counter what he's going to bring."
